Dear Southmoor Families,

As we close out another remarkable school year, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude for your unwavering partnership, collaboration, and commitment to our shared mission—supporting the full potential of every child. Together, we have created a learning environment filled with joy, perseverance, and growth.

This year, we have witnessed our students rise to new challenges, embracing their learning with curiosity and joy, and demonstrating incredible resilience each day. Their successes are a reflection of the collective efforts of our dedicated staff and the strong support of you, our families and friends. Your engagement, trust, and belief in our school community have made all the difference.

We are deeply grateful for the incredible work of our Southmoor community partners, whose leadership through the PTO, Collaborative School Committee (CSC), and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Committee continues to strengthen our school. These groups have created meaningful opportunities for families to engage by offering their time, treasure, and expertise both inside and outside of the classroom. Their collective efforts have resulted in over 2,000 volunteer hours—an extraordinary testament to the strong partnership between home and school that makes Southmoor such a vibrant and supportive learning community.

As we look ahead to summer and the coming school year, I encourage you to stay connected and informed through a few important resources and opportunities that will help nurture continued relationships and ease your transition into the new year:

📌 Stay Connected Through the Southmoor Website

Our school website is the primary source for communication and updates. From calendar events to supply lists, family resources to important announcements—you’ll find what you need to feel connected and prepared. Be sure to bookmark it and check back regularly.

📅 Use Our Calendars to Plan Ahead

To help you stay organized and involved, we provide two key calendars, both of which will be linked on our website. Both calendars are designed to keep you informed and help you plan for a successful school year.

  • The Southmoor Calendar includes important academic dates, assessment windows, and schoolwide activities.

  • The Southmoor Community Calendar highlights family engagement opportunities, community-building events, and celebrations. Many dates will be added and updated in the coming month
     

📘 Explore the Southmoor Family Guide

The new Southmoor Family Guide is a valuable tool that outlines key information, including school procedures, expectations, contact information, and ways to support your child’s learning. It’s designed to help families feel informed and confident every step of the way.

🤝 Engage in Summer Community Events

The Southmoor Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is proud to host several community gatherings throughout the summer designed to build relationships and support connections between new and returning families. These events are more than just social—they are intentional opportunities to foster belonging, share resources, and build the foundation for a strong start in the fall. 🎒 Mark Your Calendars for Beginning-of-Year Events

To ensure a smooth and welcoming return to school, we have a series of events planned to orient, engage, and inform families and students:

  • Virtual Family Orientation:  Tuesday, August 12, 2025, 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. – A chance for all families to learn about our school’s systems, supports, and culture.

  • In Person Meet & Greet:  Thursday, August 14, 2025, 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.– An informal opportunity for students to meet their teachers before the first day.

  • School Supply Drop Off: Monday, August 18, 2025, 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Families may drop off school supplies during the window of time given.   

  • In Person Back to School Night:  Thursday, September 11, 2025, 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. – An engaging evening where families learn about classroom expectations, academic goals, and how to partner throughout the year.

  • More to Come – Additional events will continue to be shared when finalized via our school website and calendar.

It has been a true privilege to serve our community this year. Thank you for the love, care, and dedication you give to our students and our school. We are so proud of all we have accomplished together and look forward to building on this momentum in the year ahead.
